Do you familiar with avatar concept in web? Avatar in web is an image to represent ourself. This identity may be applied to Instant Messenger program that mostly known for chat such as Yahoo Messenger, Gtalk or MSN Messenger or applied to blog sites. On blog sites, avatar may shown side by side with comments.

The issue may arise is when we want to use avatar on many sites. We have to upload the avatar on each sites and when we want to change the avatar, we have to re-upload the avatar to all sites. Not so convenience.

To ease thing up, Gravatar came up as the solution. The concept is Gravatar map email address to image. What we have to do are register our email address, upload image that will be used as the avatar and then map the email address to the image. If the avatar need to changed In the future, just replace the image and all systems that refer to the email address automatically changed too.

At first each Gravatar account is limited to 1 email address only, for more email addresses is only available for pay service Gravatar Pro. After took over by Automattic, this service is available for free. And now many sites support avatar now.

How to use this service? It’s effortless. To use it in blog sites, just write the comment with email address that registered in Gravatar. Your avatar will show up beside your comment. Simple right?

Maybe I don’t have any sense of belonging towards my wordpress.com hosted blog. Not many customization and personalization can be done there.  It’s not a good incentive and more over for IT worker like me. I decided to take a glimpse of having my own blog hosted privately. But alas, I don’t have any credit card to buy hosting service on the net while local hosting doesn’t seem having good value for money either.

Few months ago i got my own first credit card. The option to buy hosting service was opened to me but at that moment I wasn’t in my mood to start my own hosted blog anymore. At the same time, I stopped blogging at wordpress.com too.

The passion buried inside. Like fire still burning inside husks. Few days ago the fire went wild after two of my friends “intimidating” me. A journey started to find a domain name and a good hosting. In the same day, all settled up. The very next day I migrate my old posts and translate them into English.
