After set the connection, when I try to connect, it stop when authenticating. Plus, the Mobile Connect took 100% of one of the CPU core and raise my CPU temp 10 centrigrade higher while running.

After fiddling with it *plus googling*, the essential steps to connect are

Run the mobile connect from the mounted Mobile Partner after plug the modem. This should get the new “HUAWEI Mobile” Interface. After it’s added, no need to run that anymore.

Go to System Preference -> Network. If you can’t find “HUAWEI Mobile”, add it by clicking the “+” icon and choose “HUAWEI Mobile”

Choose the “HUAWEI Mobile” from the left pane and fill in the phone, account name and password.

Click the “Advanced” button, on “Modem” tab, choose Vendor=”Generic”, Model=”GPRS(GSM/3G)”. Fill in your APN and click “OK”

*optional, if you want to be verbose about the connection (dialing ,authenticating or disconnecting)* Tick the “Show modem status in menu bar” to help you connect.

Click “Connect” to test it out.

After you can connect, you’ll need an apps to subtitute the MobileConnect. Luckily there is an apps that build specifically for Huawei E220 and E270 USB Modem, CheetahWatch.

Notable feature:

Check signal and status network (WCDMA or HSDPA) on menu bar.

Track you transfer bandwidth usage history. Userful when you are on a limited usage plan.

Dialing and disconnecting to the network. Skip step optional step no. 5 above if you use this program.

<img

Previously I was perplexed but for efficiency sake IM2 Broom is not an option since it’s a prepaid. I can’t imagine back to the dark age when I forgot to refill or in location with no way to obtain a recharge voucher. Telkomsel Flash is having too many bad rap so I leave that option. That leaves me between Indosat 3.5G or IM2 3.5G unlimited package which happen to be post-paid from Indosat, but IM2 cost 60K more expensive (it’s 384 kbps instead of 256 kbps Indosat)

While registering at Indosat counter at supermal karawaci mall exhibition, after informed by my friend and it happen to be the last day on supermal, I asked the sales about the different between Indosat 3.5G and IM2 3.5G. He wasn’t answering my question though. But one thing, he said IM2 3.5G will be discontinued by the end of this year and will be merged with Indosat 3.5G. Something fishy here but Indosat seems not well planned by having redundant products.

Disturbing eh? or just misinformed sales on the spot?
